NTSB locates sunken cargo ship’s “black box”

April 27, 2016
A team of investigators and scientists brought a long search to an end yesterday when they located the voyage date recorder of the cargo ship El Faro in the Bahamas. The device was found about 41 miles (36 nautical miles) northeast of Acklins and Crooked Islands, in 15,000 feet of water.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) resumes its search today for the vessel data recorder of the El Faro, the doomed cargo ship that sank Oct. 1, 2015 during Hurricane Joaquin. All 33 of the El Faro’s crew perished in the accident.

Feds, California take aim at distracted driving

April 15, 2016
The United States (U.S.) Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), California Highway Patrol (CHP), the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), and Impact Teen Drivers (ITD) are joining forces for Distracted Driving Awareness Month. In 2014, 3,179 people were killed and an additional 431,000 were injured in collisions involving distracted drivers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
