Train engineer’s union kicked off derailment investigation by NTSB

ACRE violated confidentiality rule
December 4, 2013

The union representing the engineer at the helm of the commuter train that derailed Sunday in New York has been ousted from the investigation into the incident for being too chatty. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced yesterday that the Association of Commuter Rail Employees (ACRE) had been “relieved of party status” because ACRE violated the rules to which it had agreed.

Safety investigators for the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have ordered Phoenix-based Autobuses Rayon, Inc., off the road after finding numerous violations. Among them: the carrier allowed three other unsafe bus companies that had been shut down by FMCSA to operate buses that illegally bore Autobuses Rayon registration markings.
