The Fire Sprinkler Initiative, a project of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), has created a presentation highlighting the dangers of lightweight construction and the corresponding benefits of home fire sprinklers. Lightweight construction began to appear 25 years ago.

OSHA has cited Komatsu America Corp. in Peoria, Ill. with four safety violations, including two repeat, after a worker at the company’s truck manufacturing plant was injured while testing hydraulic cylinders for leakage.

A natural gas company’s failure to provide a worker with FR clothing lead to a fatality, according to OSHA, which has cited Pennsylvania-based J.R. Resources for eight safety and health violations. The employee died from injuries sustained during a flash fire.
The OSHA rulemaking process on combustible dust has been stalled at the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREFA) stage for some time.
Employees have been evacuated from the spill area. The onsite response team is suiting up and reviewing their plan to contain the spill and keep it from reaching a nearby creek.
Last month, Assistant Secretary of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Dr. David Michaels held an OSHA Employees All-Hands Meeting. OSHA employees who were not able to attend the meeting in person were able to participate through the web.
Four mining fatalities within two weeks in West Virginia prompted Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to call for a safety stand down last week so that mine operators could review safety practices. The order signed by Tomblin required mines to stop operations for at least one hour on Wednesday afternoon.
