Fourteen workers renovating an old house in Quebec, Canada developed a respiratory disease from inhaling hazardous materials, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which warns employers to provide appropriate protective equipment during such work.

Prevent slips, trips and falls one step at a time with two new online training programs from J. J. Keller

October 6, 2014

Due to injuries, fatalities and lost workdays, slips, trips and falls had a $13.7 billion price tag in 2012, according to the most recent data available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Bureau also reported 285,380 nonfatal injuries and 704 fatal injuries that same year.

Drug & alcohol testing for railroad workers delayed

October 5, 2014

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) announced an extension of the comment period for proposed new alcohol and drug testing requirements for railroad maintenance workers. The regulations, which were unveiled in July, would mean an expansion of drug and alcohol testing that is already in place for conductors, engineers and dispatchers.

Stericycle Inc. fired supervisor for reporting safety concerns

A supervisor who raised safety concerns after a driver was told to pull a trailer without a valid license plate was wrongfully terminated, according to OSHA, which has ordered Stericycle Inc.of Wichita, Kansas to reinstate the employee.

Employees of Ken Stanley, doing business as A+ Roofing, were exposed to potentially fatal falls of up to 25 feet at a Somersworth job site due to their employer's failure to ensure the use of required fall protection, according to federal OSHA.
