I don't think companies shy away from talking about their safety performance, good or bad, because there is a lack of interests, OSHA paranoia, or inside counsel has frowned on discussing it publicly out of fear of lawsuits, even though some of this may exist in every company. I think the reason is much more simple and straightforward.
Realistically, what employee is going to risk his or her livelihood filing a safety or health whistleblower complaint with OSHA; even with all the so-called protections afforded in Section 11(c) of the 1970 OSH Act or the additional protections of the proposed Protecting America’s Workers Act (HR 2067) to amend the OSH Act?
Don’t spend valuable time promoting your tools or methodologies. Focus your attention on the goals and aspirations of those in decision-making positions.
