Lora Cavuoto, Oustanding Safety Educator of the Year

Lora Cavuoto, Ph.D., CPE, has been named ASSP’s 2022 William E. Tarrants Outstanding Safety Educator. She is an associate professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University at Buffalo in New York, and has been the director of the university’s occupational health and safety training program since 2017.

ISHN speaks to Lora about wearable technology, ergonomics, the importance of mentoring students and the future of safety professionals.

A Look at Recent Serious Injuries and Fatalities Data

ISN released a whitepaper recently on serious injuries and fatalities using data from 2018 to 2020 in addition to nearly 10,000 recordable incidents from OSHA 300 Logs from 2020. The findings included in the 2021 SIFs Insights report aim to help organizations identify trends in recorded incidents and provide actions that they can take to mitigate future SIFs.
