Expanded Safety Fest 2015 set for September

Safer workplaces result in safer communities. Why? Because workers take safety practices learned on the job back home and into their communities. In Oak Ridge, once a year, an event is held to ensure safer communities by offering free safety training to anyone who registers.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Oak Ridge Business Safety Partnership (ORBSP), partnering with numerous businesses and organizations will host Safety Fest TN, a week of safety classes, safety seminars, a safety expo, and a community safety forum – all free of charge. The event is scheduled for September 14-18 in Oak Ridge with classes at six locations in Oak Ridge and Knoxville.

“This year’s Safety Fest TN is popping at the seams with classes, demonstrations, seminars, a Safety Expo, and a community brunch that celebrates safety,” said Jenny Freeman, chair of the ORBSP planning committee which is responsible for organizing the event. “We’ve got something for everyone,” she said. One of the main events is a community safety forum with Joe Estey, is a national safety specialist, who brings innovative solutions to potential safety challenges facing some of our country’s highest hazard and complex industries.

Over 40 free safety classes will be offered during Safety Fest TN, ranging from the OSHA series to chainsaw safety and hearing conservation. Want to learn CPR or recertify CPR training? Safety Fest TN will offer several CPR classes, and they fill up rapidly. Safety Fest TN also hosts an annual favorite called World Class Safety which features representatives from commercial manufacturers who share information about their safety programs. “This seminar is ideal for learning new ideas from safety practices implemented at the facilities of some of the region’s most successful companies,” said JJ Rochelle, seminar coordinator. Mr. Rochelle also organizes Safety Expo, a two-day trade show with booth space for up to 40 sponsors.

Safety Fest TN kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on September 15 with the community safety forum. “We appreciate our sponsors for supporting Safety Fest TN once again,” said Jenny Freeman, “because their donations make it possible for Safety Fest TN to remain free of charge to anyone who registers.” Class schedule launches and online registration starts on July 8th.
