Checkmate, a Pure Safety Group (PSG) brand, will unveil the line up of Checkmate Xcalibre Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRLs) and ts new Atom Xtreme 6-foot self-retracting lifeline (SRL) for North America at the 2019 National Safety Congress & Expo in San Diego.
Xcalibre Self-Retracting SRLSs
The lifelines (shown above) range from 25 to 130 feet and are available in North America as well as Europe, as Checkmate continues to expand the availability of its product lines. The Xcalibre product line includes some of the most lightweight SRLs on the market today, with excellent serviceability and exceptional performance. In the coming months, Checkmate will release several more products into the North American market.
User ratings on the Xcalibre SRLs are 130 to 310 pounds. All SRLs have a dual-acting carabiner as the top connector and a swivel-indicating aluminum carabiner as the bottom connector and feature swivel hooks with fall indicators that clearly show if the device has been subjected to a shock load. All of the new SRLs feature a brake module that is sealed by O rings which keeps out water and dust to maintain brake efficiency. All also have a BCS (brush cleaning system) to keep debris from entering the device. An optional carrying handle and shoulder strap is also available.
“PSG is very excited to expand the Checkmate SRL line into North America. Its gives additional breadth and depth to the existing SRLs offered under the Guardian brand and allows us to offer high performance products in industry segments that pose additional risks for workers at height in harsher environments,” said Erica Cole, product manager, hard goods, at PSG.
The new SRLs are:
FABXLR SLR-R is available in a 50-foot stainless steel cable SLR with aluminum carabiner or a 130-foot galvanized cable SRL. The FABXLR SLR functions as a standard SRL yet, in the event of a fall, the rewind/rescue engaged gear mechanism and winch can be engaged to raise and/or lower a fallen worker. Its rip-off security deployment tag shows if the rescue function has previously been engaged, indicating that a service/inspection is required. It can be attached to a Checkmate tripod with a FABXLR-D8 bracket and two detent pins. This product adds to Checkmate’s existing recovery SRL offerings which are available in 60- and 100-foot units.
FABX 1 is available with a 30-foot galvanized SRL with aluminum carabiner or in a 30-foot stainless steel cable SRL. It features two brake pawls that work independently of one another which ensures a “fall safe” capability if one should stop working. Its load-bearing steel chassis provides a structural metallic core beneath the external protection housing.
FABX 2 is available as a 40-foot Dyneema® web SRL with aluminum carabiner, 50-foot stainless steel cable SRL or a 60-foot galvanized steel cable SRL. It features the independent brake pads to ensure a fall safe capability, a load-bearing steel chassis, and the O-ring sealed brake module and BSC brush.
FABXL is a larger version of FABX 1 and 2, available as a 100-foot galvanized cable SRL with aluminum carabiner or 130-foot galvanized cable SRL with a steel snap, and able to accommodate a user weight of 310 pounds.
Atom Xtreme SRL
The new Atom Xtreme 6-foot self-retracting lifeline (SRL) (at right) is significant in that it is the smallest and lightest fall arrest block in the world and one of a select few Checkmate products available in North America.
“The Atom Xtreme is a totally new concept in design engineering, featuring a revolutionary triple micro pawls lockout system and full internal braking mechanism never before seen in an SRL,” said Oliver Auston, chief innovation officer for PSG. Auston adds that the brand’s expansion outside of Europe was part of its strategy when Checkmate joined the PSG family in 2018. The first Checkmate product launched in North America, the TR3 tripod for confined space rescue and lifting, was announced in April 2019.
The Atom Xtreme’s lifetime is made of Dyneema® webbing. It features three micro pawls that operate independently for faster lock on. Its internal slipping brake controls the energy from a fall without the need for an external energy absorber. The load-bearing steel chassis is internal and hot rolled to provide a structural metallic core and protected by durable composite external protective housing. The product’s swivel incorporates a fall indicator which clearly shows if the device has been subjected to a shock load and has a 360° rotation and 180° pivot to ensure the block remains in the correct orientation in any working condition. Connector options include steel and aluminum snap and rebar hooks. The alloy scaffold hook is rated for 5000 pounds and gate-rated for 3600 pounds. The 25/32” eye or the fall indicating swivel top connection allows connection to a range of karabiners and rebar hooks, and the external tail webbing allows for easy reach when attached to the read D ring.
The SRL is offered in single and dual configurations and accommodates a user weight of up to 420 pounds. It meets ANSI Z359.14 2014 Class A and ANSI A10.32:2012 standards and OSHA 1920 and 1926 Subpart M.
