BCSP looks forward to the leadership of its 2020 Board officers. Mario A. Varela, CSP, ASP will serve as Board President. Joaquin M. Diaz, CSP, CHST, OHST has been elected as Vice President; C. Christopher Patton, CSP, SMS, ASP will once more serve as Past President; and V. Raymond Ferrara, CFP, will serve as Treasurer. These individuals will work together to serve BCSP and its certificants in 2020.

BCSP welcomes several new Board members as well. Teresa Cole, CSP; Ashok Garlapati, CSP; and Donald Robinson, CSP will join the Board of Directors.

Mario A. Varela, CSP, ASP is the Senior Director – Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) at Fresenius Kabi USA, LLC, where he is responsible for EHS in the company's pharmaceuticals and devices division as well as the transfusion and cell technologies division within Region North America. He has 25 years of experience as a safety, health, and environmental professional. Varela served as Chair of the Spanish-Translations Review Subcommittee, Safety Professionals and the Latino Workforce (SPALW) at ASSP for many years. He also served as Executive Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Human Resources Branch of the Management Practice Specialty of ASSP for several years. His contributions led to his receiving ASSP's 2010-2011 "Charles V. Culbertson-Outstanding Volunteer Service Award" for contributions to the Society at the National level. Varela holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management with emphasis in Occupational Safety and Health, as well as a Master of Business Administration with emphasis in Human Resources. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Safety Technology, and an Associate of Science degree in Engineering.

Joaquin M. Diaz, CSP, CHST, OHST is Vice President of Safety Support Services at Lawson & Associates, a full-service safety solutions provider. He has over 20 years of occupational safety and health management experience. Diaz’s work experience includes 15 years in a leadership position for two top-150 ENR contractors, with 11 years for Hawaii’s largest general contractor. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout his career, Diaz has been actively involved in the professional development, mentoring, and training of safety professionals, serving as past president of the Hawaii ASSP chapter, past president of the Hawaii AIHA chapter, and as an active member of the national AGC Safety and Health committees. Diaz has two bachelor's degrees from different universities and a Master in Management.

V. Raymond Ferrara, CFP, BCSP Board of Directors Public Director, is Chairman and CEO of ProVise Management Group, LLC, a full-service financial planning firm which is a Registered Investment Advisor with the Securities and Exchange Commission, based in Clearwater, FL. He is involved with many professional and not-for-profit organizations including, Eckerd Connects, BayCare Health System, and the University of Maryland College Park Foundation. Ferrara was previously the Chair (2014) of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standard, Inc. and served on the Financial Planning Association Board of Directors. Ferrara has a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Maryland.
