Lorraine M. Martin, president and CEO of the National Safety Council (NSC), has been named to WomenInc.’s 2019 Most Influential Corporate Board Directors list. The honor will appear in the winter edition of WomenInc. magazine as part of a comprehensive list of more than 700 female executives, influencers and achievers who are contributing their leadership to corporate boards.

Martin is being recognized for her work on the Kennametal Board of Directors, which she joined in 2018. Kennametal is a global supplier of tooling and industrial materials for those in the aerospace, energy and other industries.

“I am humbled by this honor and would like to congratulate all of the other women acknowledged on this list, particularly fellow Kennametal Board member Cindy Davis,” Martin said. “Being on a board that values diversity is incredibly rewarding. We know organizations are able to flourish when they demonstrate a true commitment to inclusion.”

Martin has more than 30 years of experience leading and developing successful global and international businesses. She was appointed president and CEO of the National Safety Council in June. Previously, she was executive vice president and deputy of Rotary and Mission Systems at Lockheed Martin, where she led a team of 34,000 global employees. In addition, she served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.

Actively involved and passionately dedicated to social impact and global change endeavors promoting diversity, inclusion and equality, Martin also is co-founder of the Pegasus Springs Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for educators, students and community members to collaborate on learning models.

“It is essential that the achievements and success of professional women are showcased in the highest regard and their stories are told in meaningful ways,” said Catrina Young, executive vice president and chief communications officer of WomenInc. “We are inspired by these accomplished executives, their distinguished careers and the corporations that demonstrate inclusive board composition. WomenInc. is proud to recognize this distinguished group of women serving on public boards.”
