BSI Makes PAS 1881:2026 Update Draft Available for Public Consultation

A clear and consistent approach to operational safety is a key foundation for the development and use of automated vehicles.
PAS 1881:2026, part of a suite of connected and automated mobility (CAM) standards, provides an updated specification for testing and trials that feature a safety driver or operator. BSI is making the draft available for public consultation until December 3 and welcome comments to help inform the development of this revised standard.
Key changes relate to conducting route assessments, modifications to the base vehicle, prioritization of responses to incidents and near misses, and design of controls to override the automated driving system.
This latest version:
• Provides more detail on requirements for operational safety case development.
• Aligns with and references other key CAM standards.
• Complements in-development UK Government regulations.
• Includes case studies and illustrative processes.
