In February 2003, the Department of Homeland Security released its citizen preparedness Web site,www.Ready.gov, and completed a large-scale update this past July. But the Federation of American Scientists believed it could do better, and has launched its own site,www.ReallyReady.org.

The federation’s site includes emergency preparedness plans and information for businesses to help keep workers safe in a number of specific scenarios, including attacks, diseases, natural disasters, industrial disasters and even extreme weather patterns.

The federation said the pages of DHS’ Ready.gov, which is parodied in design as well as name by the scientists’ site, included generic advice, repetitive details, unnecessary lengthy descriptions and insufficient information for people with disabilities.
