Career assistance available for ASSE members (2/3)
The Nexsteps (www.nexsteps.org) job board Web site is a free service for ASSE members where individuals can review and apply for posted occupational safety, health and environmental jobs and where employers can review résumés and post positions.
According to a recent ASSE press release, the site operates 24/7. Currently there are close to 50 job openings posted with more than 3,300 active employers participating and nearly 2,800 active resumes available for review. Jobs posted are located across the country, and salaries for posted jobs range from $36,000 to $177,000 annually. There are openings for all levels of experience. Currently, the manufacturing, insurance, risk management, construction, environmental, management and engineering industries have the highest number of job listings on the Nexsteps site.
“Many safety and health professionals have found positions utilizing not only this career site, but by networking at ASSE chapter and regional events along with ASSE symposiums,” said ASSE president Warren K. Brown, CSP, ARM, CSHM. “Not only this, but through Nexsteps, we offer a portal for employers to some of the most experienced safety, health and environmental professionals around. It is, and has been, a great service for all and a free one for our members. A service we believe can help during these tough economic times."
To get started job seekers and employers should go to http://nexsteps.org/createaccount.asp. For employers it costs $275 to post a position for one month, $300 for two months and $325 for three months or until the position is filled. Entry-level positions (requiring one year or less experience), internships and University positions can be posted free of charge. Once posted the position appears immediately.
To assist members further, ASSE will again have the Nexsteps Career Center at Safety 2009 – the ASSE Professional Development Conference (PDC), to be held in late June in San Antonio, Texas. The on-site career center will be available to assist EHS job seekers, students, members and employers alike. During the PDC, employers can post their career opportunities for free on the web site at www.nexsteps.org and job seekers can review and apply for job openings on site. The career center will be open throughout the conference.
