OSHA has announced the opening of new area offices in Las Vegas, San Diego, Oakland, Calif., and Phoenix
According to the agency, the opening of the Las Vegas office will support OSHA’s increased activity, strengthened enforcement and enhanced state plan oversight.
The new area director of OSHA’s Las Vegas office is Joy Flack, with more than 23 years of federal and state OSHA experience. Flack has attained her designation as a certified industrial hygienist and previously served as the agency’s area director in Bellevue, Wash.
“With the brand new area office in Las Vegas, we will improve service to workers and employers in Nevada, and enhance our coordination and oversight with the state plan,” said Ken Nishiyama Atha, OSHA’s regional administrator in San Francisco, Calif. “This presence ultimately will ensure workers are better protected.”

The new area director of OSHA’s Oakland office is Van Howell, a certified safety professional with 23 years of experience within the agency. Prior to his selection for this position, Howell served as the regional auditor and team leader for enforcement programs in OSHA’s San Francisco-based regional office.
The new area director of OSHA’s San Diego office is Tom Carle, a safety engineer and a certified safety professional who has been with OSHA for more than 12 years. He has worked in OSHA’s Bridgeport and Allentown, Pa., area offices. Prior to his selection for this position, he served as the assistant area director in Allentown.

The new area director of OSHA’s Phoenix office is Ylvonne Gonzalez, a safety engineer with a degree in chemical engineering. She has more than 11 years of safety and health experience and has worked in OSHA’s Parsippany, N.J., and Wilkes-Barre, Pa., area offices. Prior to her selection, Gonzalez was the assistant area director in Wilkes-Barre.
