Wiley X® eyewear supporting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Part of year-round effort that includes donating money from sales of Wiley X Lacey™ sunglasses

October 4, 2011

Wiley XOctober is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), and once again leading protective eyewear manufacturer Wiley X® is doing its part to raise awareness and help fund ongoing research and prevention efforts.

This year marks the 26th October where The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF) — working with the support of corporate and individual partners around the world — has shined a much-needed spotlight on this health issue.  The BCRF’s goal is to find a cure in our lifetime for this disease that impacts so many women and families around the world.  This month-long awareness and education effort is known for its “Pink” creative elements and a global proliferation of the eye-catching color.  This is particularly true of BCRF’s trademark Pink Ribbon, a globally recognized icon symbolizing the fight against breast cancer.

“We’re proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as well as the ongoing efforts of an organization such as The Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr.  “Awareness, education and research will be the keys to fighting this disease and eventually finding a cure.  This is so important, we had to find a way to support this vital effort throughout the year.  We found it with the development of our stylish Lacey sunglasses for women,” added Freeman.

This model has quickly become a top-seller, with Wiley X donating $3 for each pair sold to BCRF.  This program has helped raise thousands of dollars to advance life-saving breast cancer research, while helping to promote breast cancer awareness.  With their unique Cotton Candy colored frames (with lenses available in Coral Pink or Polarized Bronze), these glasses definitely make a bold fashion statement.  Each pair of Wiley X Lacey sunglasses also comes with a signature BCRF Pink Ribbon cling sticker; another reminder
of the need for women to remain vigilant against this disease.

As feminine and stylish as these glasses are, they provide the same superior level of protection as all Wiley X models. In fact, Wiley X is the only premium performance sunglass manufacturer whose entire line meets ANSI Z87.1-2003 high velocity and high mass impact and optical performance standards. Which means, women wearing the Wiley X Lacey can rest assured their vision has optimum protection during every outdoor activity.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder
as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. In October 2011, BCRF will award $36.5 million to 186 scientists across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and China. Currently, more than 90 cents of every dollar donated is directed to breast cancer research and awareness programs. With exceptionally low administrative costs, BCRF continues to be one of the most efficient organizations in the country and is designated an “A+” charity by The American Institute of Philanthropy, the only cancer organization to achieve this.  For more information about BCRF, visit www.bcrfcure.org.
