3M launches five new lines of personal protective equipment

From revolutionary eyewear to Bluetooth-enabled earmuffs, products run the gamut of safety wear

February 13, 2013

Safety, health and comfort go hand in hand as 3M announces five new lines of personal protective equipment. They include SecureFit Protective Eyewear, Peltor X Series Earmuffs, the H-800 Series Full Brim Hard Hat with a Uvicator Sensor, the Safety Sunwear Series, and the Peltor WS Series Headsets with Bluetooth Wireless Technology.

Everyday, approximately 2,000 U.S. workers sustain a work-related eye injury that requires medical treatment. This is a problem for both employers and their workers because about 1 in 10 injuries require one or more missed workdays to recover.[1] 3M SecureFit Protective Eyewear is designed to address this alarming statistic. Made with 3M proprietary Pressure Diffusion Temple Technology, the SecureFit temples naturally adjust to individual head sizes, making them more comfortable for the worker by alleviating pressure.

Noise-induced hearing loss is the number one sensory disability in the world, and is 100 percent preventable[2], a problem that the 3M Peltor X Series Earmuffs addresses. Built with new ear cushion foam technology and earcups that tilt for optimum efficiency and comfort, the X Series is the only earmuff on the market providing noise protection of up to 31 decibels. The series also incorporates an electrically insulated twin headband design that reduces heat buildup and provides five different levels of noise-exposure protection to match the working environment.

For workers who prefer a hard hat with a full brim, the 3M H-800 Series Full Brim Hard Hat provides added protection with 4- and 6-point ratchet suspension combinations for maximum stability, and an optional Uvicator Sensor. The smart sensor changes color from red to white as the hard hat is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, alerting the wearer when it’s due for a replacement.

Providing a different form of UV relief is 3M’s newest series of Safety Sunwear. Available in 10 different styles and two different lens coating – anti-fog and anti-scratch – Safety Sunwear provides eye protection that wearers can modify into regular sunglasses. The series is lightweight with spring-hinged aluminum temples for increased stability and comfort. Plus, the sporty design features a removable foam gasket for protection from small particles.

Designed with connectivity in mind, the 3M Peltor WS Series Headsets with Bluetooth Wireless Technology gives workers the ability to communicate, listen to music, and talk on the phone all without removing their headset. Each headset amplifies lower-level sounds, like voices, while attenuating higher-level sounds, like those found in the workplace, and limits exposure to 82 decibels. Offered in four distinct styles with some offering interchangeable cups, and optional boom mics, this series of headsets provides stereo-quality sound and gives wearers the ability to simultaneously monitor connected electronics.
