AIHA wins bid to host 11th IOHA International Scientific Conference

Multidisciplinary global meeting to be held in Washington, D.C., in October 2018

February 27, 2014
Convention NewsThe American Industrial Hygiene Association® (AIHA) today announced its successful bid to bring the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) Scientific Conference to Washington, D.C. This prestigious conference and exhibition is set to take place in October 2018 and is expected to attract approximately 1,000 leading occupational hygiene experts from around the world.

“AIHA and IOHA have been partners since the beginning of IOHA over 25 years ago,” said AIHA President Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, CSP. “This is the first time IOHA will be held in the United States. It is an honor for us to host this conference as many of our members practice industrial hygiene globally and will gain from international perspective.”

Founded in 1939, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is the premier association of occupational and environmental health and safety professionals. AIHA’s 10,000 members play a crucial role on the front line of worker health and safety every day. Members represent a cross-section of industry, private business, labor, government and academia. AIHA will celebrate 75 years of protecting worker health and serving the industrial hygiene community at AIHce 2014, the premier event for IH and OEHS professionals.

The program for IOHA 2018 will include keynotes from a range of international speakers, as well as workshop sessions and poster sessions. The exhibition running alongside the conference will provide a platform for suppliers to showcase their products and services to a global audience.

“AIHA has the passion, determination, volunteer leadership, staff leadership, strong infrastructure, and a 75-year track record of significant success in developing and managing conferences,” said Cathy Cole, CIH, CSP, AIHA Past President and AIHA representative to IOHA. “We are committed to making IOHA 2018 the best conference it can be, with input and ideas from the global industrial hygiene community.”

While AIHA will host IOHA 2018, both the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) have pledged their support to the meeting.

IOHA?, of which AIHA is a founding member, comprises 29 occupational hygiene organizations from around the world and through its members, aims to improve, promote and develop occupational hygiene worldwide. Its flagship international conference takes place every two to three years, with previous host nations being Malaysia in 2012 and Italy in 2010.  IOHA 2015, organized by the British Occupational Hygiene Society, will be held next year at the London Metropole Hotel, April 27-30.
Information about IOHA 2018 and opportunities to get involved will be made available through the AIHA website in the coming months.
