OSHA has cited West Lafayette, Ind.-based Great Lakes Chemical Corp. with 18 serious safety violations at the company's El Dorado facility for exposing workers to the unexpected release of bromine.
The call from in from the Cook County (Illinois) medical examiner: a Raani Corp. worker had died from burn injuries caused by high-temperature water and a solution that erupted while the worker was beneath an open tank hatch.
Any facility that keeps hazardous chemicals on site must safely store and handle those materials to protect workers, the surrounding community, property and the environment.
