Ohio construction firm fined $135,800 for cave-in hazards (10/4)

OSHA has issued Gleason Construction Co. Inc. in Holland, Ohio, six citations for exposing workers to trench cave-ins hazards at two different excavation worksites, according to an agency press release. The citations carry total penalties of $135,800.

Coming soon: Tighter tailpipe and fuel economy standards for passenger cars and trucks (10/4)

In keeping with President Obama’s vision to reduce greenhouse gases and increase fuel efficiency, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), announced in a recent press release that they will begin the process of developing tougher greenhouse gas and fuel economy standards for passenger cars and trucks built in model years 2017 through 2025. This will build on the success of the first phase of the national program covering cars from model years 2012-2016.

Proposed rule revising wage calculations for H-2B program seeks to better protect American workers (10/4)

The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration announced in a recent press release the publication of a proposed rule that seeks to improve the H-2B temporary nonagricultural worker program and better protect American workers. The proposed rule, to be published in the Federal Register tomorrow, addresses the calculations used to set wage rates for H-2B workers.
