DSM Dyneema introduces whole new level of cut protection with Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology

October 20, 2016

DSM Dyneema today introduces Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology, a fiber innovation that combines next level cut protection and uncompromised comfort – with specific benefits for tough jobs.

Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology builds upon the Dyneema® Diamond Technology platform, already widely recognized as the world’s most advanced cut resistant fiber. This innovation leverages DSM Dyneema’s unique, patented process to permanently embed deep, rich color directly into the fiber. The result is color that lasts the lifetime of protective gloves, sleeves or other products made from the fiber.

Glove manufacturers will be able to develop gloves and sleeves with Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology that achieve high cut protection levels in accordance with the new EN388 and ANSI standards. The resulting innovations will represent the only products to reach EN388 cut resistance level D and ANSI level A4 without reinforcing with steel or fiberglass. As such, gloves made with Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology can provide maximum protection with neither the discomfort of steel fibers, nor the brittleness and short protection lifespan of fiberglass. Thus gloves retain comfort properties such as thinness, softness and cool-to-the-touch feel, making them much more likely to be worn.

“We want to emphasize these properties because we realize with Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology we have a fiber that not only looks like it can handle the toughest, roughest jobs, but delivers performance to match,” says Olivier Boubeaud, Global Segment Director, High Protective Textiles, DSM Dyneema. “And with research continuing to show most hand injuries occur when workers are not wearing gloves, the importance of protection that does not sacrifice comfort cannot be overstated.”

Protective products made with Black Dyneema® Diamond Technology will be on display at the National Safety Council expo Oct. 17-19, 2016 in Anaheim, with DSM Dyneema partners such as Majestic Glove showcasing new styles.

About DSM Dyneema

DSM Dyneema is the inventor and manufacturer of Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) fiber branded as Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. Dyneema® offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 15 times stronger than quality steel and up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, both on weight for weight basis. Dyneema® fiber floats on water and is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals. The applications are therefore more or less unlimited. Dyneema® is an important component in ropes, cables and nets in the fishing, shipping and offshore industries. Dyneema® is also used in safety gloves for the metalworking industry and in fine yarns for applications in the medical sector. In addition, Dyneema® is also used in bullet resistant armor and clothing for police and military personnel. Furthermore the new generation Dyneema® Fabrics offer next level innovations in denim, apparel, footwear, sports equipment and lightweight outdoor products and accessories.

UHMWPE products from DSM Dyneema are produced in Heerlen (The Netherlands), Greenville, North Carolina (U.S.A.) and Mesa, Arizona (U.S.A). DSM Dyneema is also a partner in a high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) manufacturing joint venture in Japan. Further information on DSM Dyneema is available at www.dyneema.com.
