Avetta announced that the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) approved Avetta’s membership on the Z16 committee, which maintains the ANSI/ASSP Z16.1-2022, Safety and Health Metrics and Performance Measures standard. Through its participation, Avetta will help shape the future of safety performance measurement—bringing the voice of its global community of hiring clients and suppliers to the development of more meaningful, actionable standards. Wyatt Bradbury, CSP, CHST, CIT and Principal of Health and Safety at Avetta, and Scott DeBow, CSP, ARM and Director of Health, Safety and Environmental at Avetta, will represent the company.

Adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and administered by the ASSP, Z16.1 provides a framework for measuring, recording and analyzing occupational safety and health data. It is designed to help organizations move beyond lagging indicators alone, incorporating leading indicators that offer deeper insight into risk, performance and continuous improvement. Committee members collaborate to uphold and evolve the standard, ensuring it reflects modern safety practices and supports better decision-making across industries.

Avetta’s participation on the Z16 committee reinforces its commitment to helping customers turn complex safety data into practical, forward-looking insights. By aligning with evolving standards like Z16.1, Avetta enables hiring clients to benchmark supplier performance more effectively, identify gaps earlier and strengthen supplier safety programs at scale. For suppliers, it creates clearer expectations and a more consistent path to demonstrate readiness—reducing friction and improving collaboration across the supply chain.

“Safety performance shouldn’t be a lagging conversation—it should be a leading advantage,” Bradbury said. “By joining the Z16 committee, we’re helping define metrics that give our customers clearer visibility into risk and stronger tools to act on it. That’s how readiness becomes real—when insight leads to greater business impact in the field.”

As industries face increasing complexity, regulatory pressure and operational risk, consistent and meaningful safety metrics are essential. Avetta’s involvement with Z16.1 will enhance its broader mission to connect businesses and suppliers in a community built on trust.

“Standards matter because they create a shared language through better data for performance improvement,” DeBow added. “Cleaner, better health and safety metrics create transparency in a complex workforce, illuminating risk and helping drive forward-looking strategy for our customers so they can make faster, more confident decisions. Our role on this committee ensures their needs are represented as we continue to raise the bar alongside industry.”

As safety performance measurement evolves, there is increasing focus on metrics that are consistent, actionable and reflective of real-world conditions. This shift underscores the need for standards that better support risk insight, decision-making and sustained progress.

“Z16.1 plays a critical role in helping organizations improve how they measure and manage safety performance,” said Linda Tapp, ALCM, CPTD, CSP and President at ASSP. “As safety becomes a core business operating system, it’s essential that we use the right metrics to demonstrate the impact of our environmental health and safety efforts. We welcome Avetta’s participation and perspective as we continue evolving the standard to help the safety profession build safer, more resilient operations.”
