American Society of Safety Engineers’ President Warren K. Brown, CSP, ARM, CSHM, in a press statement, has issued the following statement regarding the 2008 U.S. presidential election results:

“ASSE joins with all Americans in the sense of gratefulness that we live in a nation where the democratic process provides a peaceful means for political transition. On behalf of our members, ASSE congratulates President-Elect Barack Obama on his election and applauds his and Senator John McCain’s campaigns for the spirited debate about the future directions of our nation.

“We look forward to working with an Obama Administration and Congress to help shape an agenda for occupational safety and health that can reflect the experience and expertise of our 32,000 member occupational safety, health and environmental professionals in saving lives and preventing injuries and illnesses. We fully support President-Elect Obama in saying that this is not the time to ‘fall back on the same partisanship,’ which, as in other issues facing this nation, has marked the occupational safety and health debate in recent years. We are hopeful that, with his leadership, creative and meaningful ways to confront long-standing occupational safety and health issues can be achieved through solutions that encourage the entire safety and health community to work together to achieve safer and healthier workplaces across the nation.”
