Kathy A. Seabrook receives ASSE President’s Award

December 6, 2011

Kathy A. SeabrookKathy A. Seabrook, CSP (US),  CMIOSH (UK), recently received the prestigious American Society for Safety Engineers (ASSE) President’s award for her role as the ASSE Sustainability Taskforce Chair, Global Committee Chair, and advancing the formation of the Center for Safety and Health Sustainability.

A global collaborative effort among the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the Center for Safety and Health Sustainability launched in June 2011is an organizational stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a network-based organization that pioneered the world's most widely-used sustainability reporting framework. GRI's vast experience in sustainability reporting and its existing network of stakeholders will allow the Center to work toward a standardized framework for measurement and reporting safety and health sustainability/CSR performance as organizations increasingly adopt the "triple bottom line" — or social, economic, and environmental — approach to taking responsibility for sustainability.

The case for safety and health as an integral part of sustainability is compelling. Every year more than 2 million people die from occupational accidents or work-related diseases, and there are several millions more cases of non-fatal occupational accidents and diseases.  The Center for Safety and Health Sustainability was developed in response, and will provide safety and health professionals with a stronger voice in shaping sustainability policies—both in business and in public policy.

Seabrook, president of Global Solutions, Inc. (US) and Global Solutions International (UK), was also named one of 100 Women, Making a Difference in Safety and a EHS ‘Guru’ by EHS Today Magazine’s  list of ‘The 50 People Who Most Influenced EHS in 2010-2011’.  A long time ASSE member, Seabrook is the Society’s current senior vice president, and serves as an advisory member to the ASSE International Practice Specialty group and the British Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s International Group.

About Global Solutions, Inc.

Global Solutions Inc. was founded in 1996.  Seabrook, as head of the company, has with over 25 years diverse safety and health management experience in the domestic and international arenas.  She is an international speaker, management consultant, seminar/workshop presenter, leadership educator, trainer, author, facilitator and strategic planner.  In addition to two terms on the ASSE Board of Directors, she has chaired several other ASSE committees and is also an active member of the British Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering.  Seabrook is also the recipient of numerous awards for her contributions to international safety.
