Clarion Safety SystemsClarion Safety Systems, a leading designer and manufacturer of safety signs and labels, announced the launch of its new and expanded product line of facility safety signage. Its facility safety signs, tags and markings include a comprehensive offering of products and services to more effectively reduce risk and protect people amid today’s heightened regulatory and liability environment.

The Clarion product line includes five main categories of signage: Safety Equipment Location Signs; Fire Equipment Location Signs; Security/Company Policy Signs; Egress Pathmarking Signs and Markings; and Accident Prevention Signs, Labels and Tags. Additional services, such as custom design and consulting, are available in order to better meet exact workplace requirements.

Safety signage in facilities has been largely ignored for decades, often using outdated guidelines for workplace safety without regard to the newest international or national safety standards. In fact, the majority of safety signs in use in today’s facilities lack the latest warnings technology incorporated into these modern safety sign standards. This signage also fails to meet the demands of increasingly global workforces with multiple language needs.

Clarion’s new line of standards-compliant, best practice products has the ability to better communicate safety through several key elements: graphical symbols communicate across language barriers; color-coding and symbols bring added noticeability; precise formatting corresponds with modern risk assessment methodologies; and more substantial content satisfies today’s legal requirements.

“This is a pivotal time for workplace health and safety,” says Clarion president, Deb Patterson. “With OSHA now integrating the ANSI Z535-2011 standards, using the old designs can mean the difference between just complying and implementing best practices…a productive employee or a gravely injured one…a thriving business or a company mired in litigation.”

In mid June 2013, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published a direct final rule on a proposed update to its regulations on signage. OSHA plans to integrate the latest state-of-the-art warnings technology – the 2011 ANSI Z535 standards – into its safety sign and tag regulations. The goal of the update is to improve workplace safety by allowing employers to use the ANSI Z535 standards, which better communicate safety in the workplace.

“OSHA’s regulation change is an opportunity for organizations to rethink and reevaluate their facility safety signage. We’re pleased to offer this new line of best practice products to meet the needs of today’s safety-focused organizations. Clarion’s experience chairing the ANSI Z535 committee and updating OSHA’s regulations means that organizations will not only be ready for change when they work with Clarion on their signage, they’ll be confidently compliant,” says Patterson.

Along with spearheading the effort to update OSHA’s standards to better align them with the latest advances in safety sign technology, Clarion’s CEO, Geoffrey Peckham, chairs the ANSI Z535 committee and leads the ANSI delegation for the U.S. at the international ISO level. This standards leadership and expertise informs each of the products in Clarion’s line of best practice facility safety signs, tags and markings, bringing organizations a more effective means of reducing risk and protecting people.
