MSC wins supplier diversity award from the United States Postal Service

September 5, 2014
MSC INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY CO. (NYSE: MSM), a leading distributor of Metalworking and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (“MRO”) supplies to industrial customers throughout North America, announced that it has been selected as a winner in the Supplier Diversity Award category of the 2013 United States Postal Service Supplier Performance Awards Program. Each year, the Postal Service recognizes a select number of suppliers for superior supply chain performance that reduces costs, maintains high levels of service and provides innovative and sustainable solutions.

“The Postal Service’s contributions to supplier diversity are widely recognized by industry and advocacy groups, said Susan Brownell, Vice President of Supply Chain Management, Postal Service. This is the 13th year that the Postal Service has been named as one of America’s top government agencies for multicultural business opportunities. The Supplier Diversity Award recognizes suppliers for their efforts to increase the use, exposure, and development of a diverse supplier base, including efforts to improve access and opportunities for small, minority-owned, and woman-owned businesses. This year’s winner is MSC Industrial Supply Company.”

MSC was selected from more than 20,000 suppliers in recognition of its commitment to enhancing relationships with diverse businesses and delivering superior supply chain management solutions to help the Postal Service effectively achieve its mission of providing mail service to the American public.

“We are honored to be recognized by the U.S. Postal Service for our commitment to promoting diversity in the workforce. At MSC, we understand how essential it is to maintain a wide-ranging network of partners that offer unique skills to help achieve our collective goals,” said Executive Vice President, Tom Cox. “We are dedicated to providing best-in-class customer service across all aspects of the supply chain to help our customers increase productivity, drive efficiency and manage costs, and we’re especially proud to be able to do so for such an important institution like the Postal Service.”

Attendees of the Postal Service Supplier Performance Awards included Postmaster General and CEO Patrick Donahoe and Supply Management Vice President Susan Brownell – who presented the awards – as well as a number of Postal Service officers, vice presidents, managers, stakeholders and award winners.

MSC Industrial Supply Co. is one of the largest distributors of Metalworking and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (“MRO”) supplies to industrial customers throughout the United States. MSC employs one of the industry’s largest sales forces and distributes approximately 600,000 industrial products from approximately 3,000 suppliers.
