Gasco implements a full scale incident response plan

Keeping Calibration Gas in production in the face of disaster while keeping its workers safe

October 9, 2014

Vendor NewsWorking smarter and working safer, Gasco implements an incident response plan complete with an “Emergency Management Team” to keep workers safe and orders filled.

“The plan was created as a tool to give Gasco the ability to handle any incident that may present itself. This could be weather related, human error, equipment failure or fire.” Said Adam Friedman, Operations Manager of Gasco. “ This plan enables us to add another level of confidence that our distributors can have in Gasco’s ability to manufacture and deliver the highest quality Calibration Gas in the business – no matter what!”

Realizing that outside forces can have a major impact on business and worker safety, Gasco set out to have an air tight plan on how to keep on their feet in the face of disaster. It started with installing a few standby Generac generators with a total of 1100KW of power to enable the Florida facility to run full operations in the event of a power outage. From there, the plan grew and an “Emergency Management Team” was set up within the company, consisting of 9 main team members and several alternates that can step in at any time. Each team member is responsible for different tasks and check lists related to different types of disasters.

“Depending on the nature of the incident, we will have a full plan and an automated phone message set up within 30 minutes of a business interruption. If the incident is an inclement weather episode, we will make sure our distributors are notified days in advance of any closure through e-mail, phone and on our website and social media pages,” said Adam Friedman.

Going beyond immediate notification, Gasco has set up a second location with the ability to step in and kick into high gear in the case of inoperative conditions in Florida. “In the event of a flood or other natural disaster, the Texas facility is able to go into 24 hour operation if needed to support our customers. We have employees slated to work shifts in order to ensure that gas is delivered in a timely fashion. When creating the Texas facility, our goal was to have it mirror the Oldsmar operations,” said Adam Friedman.

Gasco has a long history of promoting safety in the workplace. It has filling stations equipped with blast doors, gas monitoring equipment to detect leaks, blow off valves installed to prevent over pressurization in various equipment.  Employees are also mandated to have special eyewear and steel toed boots in most areas. Adding an incident response plan of this scale solidifies Gasco’s commitment to the safety of its workers and promises its loyal distributors timely delivery even in the event of a disaster.
