Since 2003, the Alliance for Biking and Walking has produced the Benchmarking Report that tracks data across the U.S. to promote data collection and availability, measure progress and evaluate results, and support efforts to increase bicycling and walking. This year, partners from across various sectors worked together to build a website out of the Bicycling and Walking in the United States: 2016 Benchmarking Report to bring a comprehensive exploration of the intersections between transportation, health, economics, equity, government funding and advocacy efforts online.
1 Electric shock
Electric shock is one of the most serious and immediate risks facing a welder. Electric shock can lead to severe injury or death, either from the shock itself or from a fall caused by the reaction to a shock.
Electric shock occurs when welders touch two metal objects that have a voltage between them, thereby inserting themselves into the electrical circuit.

ACGIH® will honor its 2017 Awards recipients at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce) held June 47, 2017 in Seattle, Washington. Each year, ACGIH® honors individuals and/or groups who have made significant contributions to the profession through their leadership and dedication. This year’s awardees join that distinguished list.
ACGIH® has released its 2017 editions of the TLVs® and BEIs® book and the Guide to Occupational Exposure Values.
The information in the user-friendly, pocket-sized TLVs® and BEIs® book is used worldwide as a guide for evaluation and control of workplace exposures to chemical substances and physical agents. Threshold Limit Value (TLV®) occupational exposure guidelines are recommended for more than 700 chemical substances and physical agents.
ACGIH® announced today that its Board of Directors ratified the 2017 Threshold Limit Values (TLVs®) for Chemical Substances and Physical Agents and Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs®). The Board also approved recommendations for additions to the Notice of Intended Changes (NIC).
To help keep welders safe, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and OSHA offer safety guidelines to help workers avoid welding hazards. Awareness of the most common welding hazards and knowing how to avoid them creates a safe, productive work environment for all.
