On Monday morning, the National Safety Council honored five individuals with Distinguished Service to Safety Awards, the highest award the Council presents to safety professionals. This year’s five recipients were honored at the opening session of the NSC Congress & Expo in Indianapolis.
The National Safety Council is hosting its annual NSC Congress & Expo in Indianapolis September 23-27. This year’s event, Racing to Zero – Safety that Works, features more than 1,100 exhibitors, more than 125 educational seminars and five keynote sessions, giving attendees access to unparalleled resources to improve safety.

The U.S. population is aging, which means that the U.S. workforce is also growing older. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of workers aged 65 or older has grown by 117% in a span of 20 years, while employment of individuals 75 years or older has likewise increased by 117%.
The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA®) has won three dotCOMM awards for its #IAmIH campaign, launched earlier this year. The awards include a platinum dotCOMM award for excellence in documentary filmmaking for its first-ever day-in-the-life documentary on an industrial hygienist, a platinum award for the first-ever #IAmIH comic, and a gold award for the campaign's website, www.ihheroes.org.
The world’s oldest professional safety society, founded more than 100 years ago, will adopt a new name following a historic membership vote that was overwhelmingly in favor of the change. The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will become the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) next year when it unveils a redesigned website in conjunction with Safety 2018 in San Antonio. The switch was approved by 74 percent of voting members.

The final numbers are in, and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has officially held its biggest safety conference and exposition in the event’s 56-year history. ASSE’s Safety 2017 Professional Development Conference & Exposition in Denver attracted 5,244 attendees and 640 exhibitors in June, easily surpassing its previous highs.
