Cooperating with OSHA gets safety director fired

A safety director who was fired after providing a statement and safety documentation to OSHA for an investigation will receive $48,000 in back wages and compensatory damages from his previous employer. Jasper Contractors - headquartered in Kennesaw, Georgia, but performing roofing work in Florida – has agreed to the settlement with OSHA, which resolves a lawsuit filed under the anti-retaliation provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act.

Tesla accused of underreporting worker injuries

Shades of gray come into play

Electric car maker Tesla is being accused of underreporting and mischaracterizing worker injuries at its Fremont factory in order to make its safety record appear to be better than it, claims a new report. Reveal, a news site from the Center for Investigative Reporting, says Tesla has been lowering its official injury count by classifying musculoskeletal injuries, toxic fume exposure and other work-related injuries as personal medical issues or minor accidents.

Waterpark owner, operator charged with murder in connection with boy’s death

The co-owner and operator of a Kansas waterpark face murder, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery and aggravated endangerment of a child charges in the death of ten-year-old Caleb Schwab, who was decapitated on a water slide in 2016. Jeffrey Wayne Henry, co-owner of Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts in Kansas City, Kansas was arrested yesterday in Texas and held without bond, pending his extradition to Kansas to face charges.

Man falls 500 feet to death trying to rescue dog

A 67-year-old California man fell off a 500-foot cliff while trying to rescue his dog, authorities said. The Golden Gate National Park ranger said the man’s dog got away from him, and when he tried to go after it he slipped to his death. Long after the fatal fall, the man’s dog continued pacing and barking on a perch, as if sensing something was wrong.
