NTSB: Natural gas pipeline rupture, fire caused by corrosion

Pipeline not inspected since 1988

The 2012 rupture of a Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation natural gas pipeline in West Virginia was caused by external corrosion that could have been discovered by the pipeline operator, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a report released earlier this week.

The CSB has released its second safety message in an occasional series focusing on the impacts  of chemical accidents  on people’s lives. The short video features Amy Gumbel, sister of Matt Gumbel - one of the workers fatally injured in the 2010 explosion and fire at the Tesoro Refinery in Anacortes, Washington.

BP again allowed to do business with federal government

EPA lifts suspension and debarment of company

The Environmental Protection Agency and BP yesterday executed an agreement resolving all suspension and debarment actions against BP that barred the company from doing business with the federal government following the company’s guilty plea in the Deepwater Horizon disaster of April 2010. The administrative agreement will be in place for five years.

Pain sufferers feel that pharmacists treat them like addicts

March 13, 2014

A survey of people who suffer chronic pain finds that many of them feel uncomfortable when they visit their pharmacy. In a National Pain Foundation survey of more 300 chronic pain sufferers: More than half (52%) stated that they "are concerned that they will be treated like a drug addict by their pharmacist."
