During the Trump administration, some were critical of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for taking a too-relaxed approach to enforcement. The number of inspections and citations between 2016 and 2019 were lower than previous years, and OSHA was not always as vocal about its enforcement efforts.
Safety is a complex process with countless approaches, but all of them should take advantage of a few core safety tips that can save lives and gear around the workplace. Thousands of workplace accidents occur every year. Some are minor and others are fatal, but many are preventable.
Job sites have been getting safer over the years, down to 15 worker deaths per day in 2019 from 38 a day in 1970. This trend, however, can only continue with consistent efforts to train workers on, and protect them from, OSHA violations on construction sites.
Operating heavy equipment increases a worker’s risk of injury. However, this risk can be greatly mitigated with strong safety training and commitment to technology like equipment operator monitoring.
