Squeezing limes for fresh juice may improve the taste of any summer cocktail, but for bartender Justin Fehntrich, it only left him with severe and blistered hands. On a hot summer day this past June, Fehntrich was bartending at a fundraiser on Fire Island, which required that he prep drinks by cutting up and squeezing 100 limes into pitchers for the guests’ cocktails directly under the sun.

Summertime activities can bring people into close proximity to burn hazards in the form of fire pits, campfires and outdoor grills. Dr. Richard Gamelli, director of the burn unit at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. said burns due to fire can happen easily and quickly, especially when alcohol has been abused or children are present.
OSHA has cited Global Pyrotechnic Solutions Inc., a fireworks manufacturer in Dittmer, Missouri for 25 serious and six other-than-serious safety violations after three workers suffered burns caused by an explosion at the company's facility in March.
A grand jury convened in Coos County, N.H., has indicted Craig Sanborn, owner of gunpowder manufacturer Black Mag LLC, for manslaughter and negligent homicide as a result of a deadly 2010 explosion that took the lives of two workers at the company's Colebrook, N.H., worksite.
