Harness Software has announced a unique partnership with the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association (MRCA) that will see the company help over 300 member contractors save time and money in the area of health & safety.

The owner of a Pennsylvania roofing company was indicted by the U.S. Attorney's office in Philadelphia with making false statements, obstructing justice and willfully violating OSHA fall protection standards in connection with the fatal fall of an employee in June 2013.

Roofing contractor Juan M. Garcia Martinez has been cited for four willful safety violations for exposing workers to fall hazards at two separate residential home sites in Tuscola. OSHA has proposed penalties of $48,400 for the recent citations. The company was cited twice in March 2014 for similar violations.

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers (UURWAW) and National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) are supporting the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), taking place throughout the U.S. from June 2-6, 2014.

A Missouri roofing company cited for fall hazards in four separate inspections since 2010 has continued to endanger its employees, according to OSHA, which has cited Andres Roofing Co. Inc. for four repeat safety violations with proposed penalties of $52,800.

OSHA’s proposal to safeguard workers by reducing silica exposures disregards “the unique nature of roofing work” and may actually making roofers’ jobs more dangerous, according to the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).
