Wiley X®-sponsored Kevin Harvick® wins 2014 Sprint Cup Series Championship

Harvick beats NASCAR's best at Homestead-Miami Speedway to earn first title

November 20, 2014

Wiley XWiley X®-sponsored NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick® has earned his first Sprint Cup Series Championship, doing so by racing two back-to-back victories on consecutive weekends. First, Harvick had to win the Quicken Loans for Heroes 500 at Phoenix International Speedway last Sunday just to earn a spot among the “final four” drivers competing for the Cup. Then, Harvick had to show his skills and nerves of steel by passing driver after driver in the final laps to win the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway November 16.

This win definitely didn’t come easy — and this made it a fitting way to be crowned the “best of the best” for 2014. Harvick was in 12th position on a restart with 15 laps to go, and quickly passed four cars to move to seventh place. Another caution flag followed, and Harvick’s earlier decision to get four new tires paid off handsomely. He shot through the middle on the restart and quickly picked up four spots to move into second place behind Denny Hamlin, also in the running for the championship. Harvick eventually passed Hamlin and held off a challenge from Ryan Newman (also one of the four Cup finalists), who eventually finished second. Joey Logano, also in the Cup finale and sponsored by Wiley X, was running strong but had complications on pit row late in the race that pushed him back from sixth to 21st. He recovered a bit to eventually finish 16th.

“We are thrilled for Kevin and his entire crew,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr. “It was quite a feat to win two weeks in a row, against this level of competition. As the race was winding down, Kevin literally had to pass several other drivers who were fighting him for the championship. He proved that he has the heart and determination of a champion, and we’re proud to be associated with him,” added Freeman.

Wiley X works with top NASCAR racers like Harvick, Logano, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and other fan favorites. These drivers depend on the sharp vision and high-velocity protection they receive from Wiley X sunglasses on the track and off.  Wiley X sunglasses meet stringent ANSI Z87.1 High Velocity and High Mass Impact Safety standards, providing occupational-grade protection for every activity. Wiley X is the only premium sunglass brand with this level of vision protection in every pair of glasses it makes — a big reason why the company is a leading provider of protective eyewear systems to U.S. military, law enforcement, professional fishermen and others who perform in challenging conditions.

In addition, almost every Wiley X model is Rx-ready, making it the perfect solution for people who want the style and protection benefits of Wiley X with prescription lenses. Wiley X DIGIFORCE™ digital Rx lens technology provides wearers with superior prescription accuracy and clarity, along with the widest possible field of vision.
