National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) is partnering with OSHA to heighten awareness among its members of the heat hazards faced by outdoor workers.
An upcoming webinar, Heat Awareness-What you and your Team should know!, promises to take a “deep dive” into identifying the potential exposure factors to heat stress and methods for preventing or limiting their impact. The presenter will be Sam Steel, NALP Safety Advisory.
The free webinar takes place July 25 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Visit the NALP website to create an account and register for the webinar.
NIOSH says risk factors for heat-related illness include:
- high air temperatures and humidity
- direct sun exposure
- physical exertion
- not drinking enough fluids (dehydration)
- personal protective equipment or clothing
- certain medications
- physical condition
- lack of recent exposure (not acclimatized), and
- advanced age (65+).
OSHA has resources on how to keep workers cool and healthy like the OSHA Fact Sheet: Protecting Workers from the Effects of Heat.
