Field ID launches lockout/tagout feature

June 21, 2013

Field ID Harness Pad InspectionField ID, a leader in safety compliance and inspection applications, today announces a new patent pending lockout/tagout (LOTO) module designed to help safeguard workers with digital lockout/tagout procedures. Safety managers can now use Field ID on the web, smartphones and tablets to control lockout/tagout procedures and ensure equipment, machinery and energy sources are properly locked out prior to any required servicing or maintenance.

Lockout/tagout consistently ranks among the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's annual list of the top 10 most frequently cited violations. Failure to follow lockout/tagout procedures for controlling hazardous energy accounts for nearly one out of every ten serious accidents recorded, according to OSHA. Compliance with lockout/tagout standards, however, can prevent up to 120 fatalities and 50,000 injuries each year in the United States alone.

"The control of hazardous energy is an extremely important issue for many industries, and getting it wrong can have huge consequences," said Matthew Paterson, Director, Product Management, Field ID. "Getting lockout/tagout right doesn't have to be difficult. We are very proud to bring new lockout/tagout features to Field ID and address another crucial area of concern for safety professionals around the world."

With Field ID, safety managers can author specific lockout/tagout procedures to be followed by employees and ensure hazardous energy sources are discharged in their proper sequence. A smartphone or tablet with Field ID can guide employees through the process until proper lockout is complete and keep safety managers up to date on critical safety statuses.

Field ID developed the lockout/tagout feature drawing on decades of expertise in lockout solutions offered by Master Lock Company LLC.

"As a global leader in safety lockout/tagout solutions, we help organizations meet and surpass OSHA's LOTO requirements every day," said Franco Daino, VP/GM, Safety Solutions, Master Lock Company LLC. "Field ID's new lockout/tagout solution is a breakthrough for safety, and we're proud to have contributed our expertise to its development."
