While U.S. oil & gas companies have, for the most part, refused to disclose the chemicals they use in hydraulic fracturing – or “fracking” – on the grounds that such information is proprietary, their European counterparts have launched a new website to disclose those and other details.

What kind of business confab in any field is on top it without a session or two or 12 on new communications technology devices as business tools? Certainly ASSE is “with it.” On Wednesday afternoon Safety 2013 features an education session; “Streamlining Safety Operations Through Widespread Use of Mobility.”

A series of recent chemical plant explosions – including two fatal ones in La. last week – has safety advocates once again calling for stronger federal legislation for chemical plant safety and security. A total of three workers were killed and approximately 80 others injured in the two La. incidents.

An online information source is reporting that the Williams Olefins chemical plant that exploded Thursday in southern Louisiana has not been inspected by OSHA in at least two decades.

Both OSHA and the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) are investigating Thursday’s explosion at the Williams Olefins plant in south Louisiana -- which was followed a day later by another fatal chemical plant blast only a few miles away.

One person was killed and more than seventy injured in an explosion and fire this morning at a Louisiana chemical plant, according to news sources. The blast took place at the Williams Chemical Plant in Ascension Parish.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board today announced production and release of a new three-disc, single-box set containing all safety videos produced to date for completed CSB accident investigations. The DVD set is available free of charge and may be ordered by filling out the DVD request form at www.CSB.gov.

The Mississippi Supreme Court last week upheld a Forrest County law requiring fencing, gates and warning signs at oil and gas sites – an ordinance passed after a 2009 accident that killed two teenagers.
