With the summer drawing to an end and the school year around the corner, pediatric eye specialists at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and The Wilmer Eye Institute are sounding the alarm on a preventable yet all too common occurrence — sports-related eye injuries.
OSHA’s beleaguered VPP is getting strong support from the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). “All of OSHA should be in VPP,” said ASSE President Richard A. Pollock, CSP, in a letter to Rep. Timothy L. Walberg, chair of the U.S. Subcommittee on Workforce Protections’ Committee on Education and the Workforce.
Almost twice as many piece rate workers suffer from workplace injuries as those on standard contracts, according to research from Lancaster University Management School. The increased productivity gained by employers from piece rate work is lost through increased absence and the cost of compensation, the authors note.
