ASSP President Rixio Medina, CSP, CPP, has expressed his organization’s support for HR 1309 and S. 851, legislation to help protect workers in the healthcare and social service sectors from the threat of workplace violence.

MSA is issuing this Inspection Notice to inform you that we have received a field report of an unflared center shaft in an MSA Latchways 10 ft. (3m) Web PFL. MSA has not received any reports of injuries associated with this condition. However, we are requesting you perform the inspection outlined in this notice. If subjected to rough handling, an unflared shaft may eventually dislodge completely from the web PFL.

Hands, fingers injured at Ala. packaging company

April 30, 2019
Injuries to two employees in two separate incidents have resulted in OSHA citations against a Mobile, Alabama packaging manufacturer. One of the workers at the ProAmpac facility suffered a severe hand injury after being caught in a piece of equipment. Another employee sustained a finger laceration when struck by moving machine parts.

Faster shipping from Amazon raises worker safety concerns

Amazon’s announcement that it will soon provide one-day shipping for some customers is not receiving an enthusiastic response from worker safety advocates. Amazon Chief Financial Officer Brian Olsavsky said on Thursday that the company will change the current two-day standard free shipping plan to a one day plan for Prime members.

Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect, 2019

14 workers die each day from job-related injuries

Just in time for Workers Memorial Day, April 28, the AFL-CIO has released its annual report, “Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect.” Among the figures in this year’s comprehensive look at the state of safety and health protections for America’s workers: in 2017, 5,147 workers lost their lives on the job as a result of traumatic injuries, according to fatality data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

$600K+ in safety fines for Pa. contractor

"Knowingly and repeatedly" ignored fall protection requirements
April 22, 2019
OSHA has cited framing contractor Navy Contractors, Inc. for willfully exposing employees to fall hazards at residential construction sites in Royersford, Collegeville, and Center Valley, Pennsylvania. The company faces $603,850 in penalties. The agency initiated inspections at the three jobsites after inspectors saw employees performing framing work without fall protection.
