Construction accidents across the U.S. this week
A fall, a vehicle accident and a drowning during the second week of the new year claimed the lives of two construction workers and left a third hospitalized with critical injuries.
In Orlando, Florida news sources say a worker employed by I-4 Ultimate fell 50 feet at a jobsite Monday afternoon. No word yet on the cause of the fall. The worker was reported to be in critical condition at a local hospital.
The Florida Department of Transportation and OSHA are both investigating the incident.
On Wednesday in Adams County, Colorado, a highway construction worker did not survive when he was struck by a vehicle while on the job on Wednesday afternoon. The victim was a WS Barricade employee who was working as a flagger. The driver who struck him with his Jeep remained on the scene.
Scaffolding that came loose apparently led to the drowning death of a Texas man on Saturday. News sources say when the scaffolding Raul Godoy was tied to came loose, he fell off a construction platform and drowned in the Tule Lake Channel. The Corpus Christi Police Department's dive team attempted to rescue the 61-year-old from McAllen, Texas.
