BCSP Foundation to Sunset as BCSP Focuses on Core Mission and Vision

After a year of strategic evaluation, and in consultation with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), the BCSP Foundation Board of Directors has made the decision to sunset the BCSP Foundation. This transition will allow BCSP to concentrate its efforts on equipping safety professionals and the industry with the essential credentials, tools, and resources needed to make a lasting impact.
"The BCSP Foundation began in 2018 as a philanthropic investment into the future of the safety profession," said Bruce Hollcroft, CSP, ARM, CHMM, President of the BCSP Board of Directors. "While the Foundation has made significant strides in advancing safety initiatives, we believe that fully integrating these efforts within BCSP will allow us to better serve our credential holders and the industry as a whole."
Though the BCSP Foundation will cease operations, its mission will continue through key initiatives that will be housed under BCSP. The Foundation's academic journal, SHIFT: Global EHS Research to Practice, will continue as a leading resource for cutting-edge research and best practices. BCSP will also host the fourth biennial Research & Innovation Summit, previously a Foundation-sponsored event, from August 4-6, 2025, in Indianapolis. Additionally, the student scholarship program will continue under BCSP's administration, providing crucial financial support to future safety professionals.
“I have had the privilege of serving on the BCSP Foundation Board since shortly after its inception,” said BCSP Foundation Chair Travis Kruse, PhD, MS, CSP. “I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact it had on the safety community. This decision was not made lightly, but it ensures that these critical initiatives receive the dedicated time, resources, and staffing necessary to thrive under BCSP's leadership."
In addition to the student scholarship program, the Research & Innovation Summit, and the academic journal SHIFT, the BCSP Foundation spearheaded several impactful programs. It provided funding to universities for accreditation purposes, administered funding for emerging professionals via the Dotson Emerging Professionals Award, supplied learning and safety materials for youth programs such as JA JobSpark, supported workforce development through job fairs and the Learning on Demand platform, and fostered meaningful industry partnerships to aid in strengthening cultures of safety.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to the volunteers, donors, partners, staff, and board members who championed the Foundation's mission and vision," said BCSP CEO Christy Uden, CAE, IOM. "Their dedication has been instrumental in shaping impactful initiatives, and BCSP is committed to continuing this important work."
The BCSP Foundation was founded on three core pillars: workforce development, youth safety, and research and innovation. As these initiatives transition back to BCSP, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to advance the safety profession and support those dedicated to protecting lives.Looking for a reprint of this article?
