Calif. worker falls while installing solar panels on roof

A California solar panel installation company has been fined $193,905 by the state’s workplace safety watchdog agency, after one of its employees was seriously injured in a fall. Cal/OSHA cited Anaheim-based Nexus Energy Systems, Inc. for failing to provide required fall protection for its workers.

The Edgehog line meets ANSI standard Z359.14-2014 for a worker capacity range of 130-310 lbs. “A leading edge self-retracting lifeline can be critical,” Malta Dynamics President Holland said. “If a worker goes over an edge, as the self-retracting lifeline contacts the edge and comes over, there is a potential the cable could break if it's not specifically designed for leading edge use.”

Companies cited after fatal fire at Pennsylvania natural gas plant

OSHA has cited both a contractor and the operator of a natural gas processing plant in Houston, Pennsylvania, following a fire that killed one worker and left three others badly burned. The agency cited Energy Transportation LLC, the company contracted to clean lines and vessels at the plant, for violations of the process safety management (PSM) standard, and for exposing employees to flammable vapor and liquid while they off-loaded waste material from a vessel into a mobile tank.
